Dinner plans fall through yet again (you know who you are....*evil eye*). All the better: managed to drag myself to the Bedok gym to work off that wicked chocolate peanut butter milkshake I had at lunch.

Today I learnt I do not possess the gift of speech-writing. The toast speech I came up with was totally reworked and overhaulled by my supervisor into "warmer", "friendlier" mini-paragraphs replete with priceless gems like "as the monsoon brings much needed rain and relief, the CECA will create jobs for a million Indians". Told a colleague on the Middle East desk I was perhaps too cynical to come up with such stuff. He retorted that everyone in my ministry was cynical, but one just had to learn how to compartmentalize our cynicism and not let it affect our ability to produce heart-warming and cheery prose.

Taking notes for Minister tomorrow! That should be fun...not.
